The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we ... kill those people.

Welcome to Jove!

It's back! But here's the thing: the last time Jove went out on a 'closed' beta to just a couple people, it then magically spread to several different sites. I sympathise with the urge to share, but the problem is I don't have the time to provide support for that many beta installations.

So, new plan! Rather than demand some kind of pinky-swear/blood oath combo on not sharing, I'm just not going to release the script until it's been properly tested on here first. The more you test it, the quicker it will be released (yep, still for free).

Cool! How can I help?

First, you need to create an account. This will let you use most of the front-end of the site, the admin side of things will be open to test later. Then, go poke things. Play in the chat. Upload an image. Add a quote. Whichever and whatever takes your fancy.

If you come across any problems, head to the forums and post up your issue. Please give as much information as you can, including your browser and what steps you took to produce the problem. While you're there, you can also make feature requests or leave general feedback, if you feel the urge.

How long will this take?

It really depends how much help with the testing I get. Anywhere from a month to 2 or 3 months, maybe? Maybe longer?

Why so looooooong?

Jove is more fun than my day job, but sadly doesn't pay well. Or. You know. At all. And I kind of enjoy the part where I can make rent and eat. If you'd like to support Jove's development and also receive my undying devotion:

Will there be more modules?

They'll be along, but the plan is to get the core modules solid first.
